The City of Rio Dell is hiring for a Wastewater Superintendent. The Superintendent is the Chief Plant Operator and is responsible for the upkeep and regulatory compliance of the sewer collection system, an Aeromod activated sludge plant constructed in 2013.
Between May and September we pump the effluent to our irrigation field and in the winter months is discharged to the Eel River. Our waste sludge from the treatment plant is processed through a belt press and then an indirect sludge dryer.
Computer skills, electro-mechanical knowledge, abilities and trouble-shooting skills are good attributes for a position that is both administrative and hands-on operational. Long-term projects include a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study conducted by the City’s Engineer and future grant funded work on the collection system.
The system is largely computerized through remote SCADA operations. Staffing resources and responsibilities include two graded Operators and an Operator-in-Training. Also, shared access to a 4-man Utility Crew.
The successful candidate will have a Grade III wastewater treatment plant operations certificate from the SWRCB, or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of the date of hire. Demonstrated flexibility across the spectrum of public works, including knowledge of drinking water systems is a plus. Cross training available. The City will fund all training.
