Position Summary
The Music Librarian is responsible for the organization, preparation, distribution, collection, and maintenance of all music used by the orchestra. This position helps ensure that musicians have accurate and complete performance materials and that the orchestra’s music library remains organized and accessible. The Music Librarian works closely with the Music Director, Concert Master, Registrar and ASO Board to support rehearsals and performances.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and enjoys supporting musicians behind the scenes. They understand the importance of accurate music preparation. Because our organization is volunteer-driven, the Music Librarian should be comfortable collaborating with volunteers and adapting to a variety of responsibilities as needed to support the orchestra’s mission.

The Organization
All Seasons Orchestra (ASO) serves musicians of the Redwood Coast of all ages by providing a friendly and supportive atmosphere in which to practice, learn and improve. The Partnership in Music Orchestra was created in the Fall of 2022 with a Memorandum of Agreement between Cal Poly Humboldt and ASO. In this partnership, the conductor for Humboldt Symphony has become the conductor also for All Seasons Orchestra. The benefits for both orchestras have been indisputable.

Key Responsibilities
Music Preparation
Coordinate with the Music Director regarding repertoire selections and music needs.
Verify that all parts and scores are complete, legible, and properly marked.
Coordinate the photocopying of legally permissible materials when necessary. Ensure compliance with all copyright and licensing requirements.
Distribute and collect music at rehearsals and concerts.
Distribute and collect folders for all musicians.

Library Management
Maintain music library, including accurate inventory, upkeep, storage of hard copies, and of digitized music, and an organized catalog/database of approximately 300 works.
Research, obtain and/or purchase materials as directed by orchestra leadership
Digitize works owned by the orchestra as needed.

Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate records of library holdings and music usage.
Provide periodic reports to Music Director and/or ASO Board regarding library needs and inventory status.
Maintaining office equipment and supplies including the copier/scanner, and personal computer (provided by ASO) at the ASO office located at the Eureka Woman’s Club.
Coordinate with orchestra registrar regarding membership, instrumentation and music needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Good communication skills.
Ability to read music and understand orchestral instrumentation.
Basic computer skills, including spreadsheet and database management.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with orchestral repertoire and music publishing practices preferred.
Prior experience with music libraries, school ensembles, bands, choirs, or orchestras is desirable but not required.

Time Commitment
An average of 10 hours per week, work hours will be flexible based on the performance season. Attendance at designated rehearsals and performances may be required. Some work may be completed remotely.

Compensation: $20.00-$25.00 per hour depending on experience.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and transport boxes of music weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
Ability to organize, file, and transport music materials between storage, rehearsal, and performance locations.
