GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Accountant assists and reviews all payroll functions and ensures all required reporting is completed in a timely manner. The Senior Accountant will monitor and preform monthly and annual processes such as reconciliations and assists with audit requirements. This position will also assist in processing and reviewing entries and reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Payroll processing and related tax return review.
Prepares or reviews audit reports related to payroll such as 401K, workers compensation and annual tax returns.
Maintains select accounting schedules such as prepaids, advances and accrued expenses.
Reconciles general ledger balance sheet accounts including bank and non-cash accounts.
Monitors reconciliation compliance across organization.
Prepares and enters select transactions into accounting system.
Reviews select disbursements and journal entries to assure proper coding and approvals.
Coordinates month end and year end close entries and processes.
Acts as Subject Matter Expert in Internews accounting processes to assist with trouble shooting and training.
Collaborates in the development and introduction of accounting processes and procedures for continuous improvement of accounting methods.
Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or closely related field.
At least 4 years of accounting experience with increasingly complex responsibilities including direct supervisory experience.
Thorough knowledge of not-for-profit Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and ability to implement these principles.
Proven technical and logistical problem-solving capabilities.
Proven ability to manage competing deadlines.
High degree of social adaptability and sensitivity to cultural differences.
Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Advance MS Office suite skills, particularly Excel.
US work authorization required.

Preferred

Experience in accounting procedures training to a variety of staff skill levels.
CPA, Advanced degree, or equivalent, in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
Working knowledge of 2CFR200.
Experience in the review, development, implementation of accounting processes for best practices, efficiency and standardized internal control processes.
Experience with enterprise level non-profit accounting software.
