Job Description
Hohman and Associates Forestry Consultants has an opening for a Wildlife Biologist. We are looking for someone to work 20-40 hours a week. The work schedule may vary depending on need during the peak Northern Spotted Owl season, and the schedule is likely to include working nights and possibly weekends. We are seeking a candidate with experience working with Northern
Spotted Owls and other sensitive and protected wildlife. The preferred applicant will have experience working as an environmental consultant, and they will have knowledge of California regulatory permitting. The applicant should also have a strong attention to detail, and willingness to learn new skills and protocols. Responsibilities may include working with the current wildlife biologist to manage and schedule wildlife surveys, evaluating regulatory compliance for timber harvest and cannabis cultivation , field surveys, interacting with resource agency personnel and our clients, and preparing reports. This position will sometimes require navigating rugged terrain safely and working alone in a variety of weather conditions and at night.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Successful applicants should meet the following requirements:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in wildlife biology, wildlife management, environmental science or closely related field.
Must have working knowledge of Northern California wildlife communities, field survey protocols, and environmental regulation.
A background in wildlife management and broad knowledge of California’s ecosystems.
Experience identifying wildlife species in the field.
Experience with GPS/GIS and mapping software.
Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet software.
The ability to prepare or assist with preparing CEQA/NEPA documents, biological assessments, and permitting documents.
Have a valid driving license with a clean driving record.
Safely drive an ATV and navigate in remote locations.
Good critical thinking/analytical skills.
Applicant must show leadership and have good technical writing skills.
