GENERAL INFORMATION: The City of Arcata’s Streets & Utilities Division is now
accepting applications for a Water Meter Reader to read and change water meters.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Reading water meters and entering data into a handheld device. Changing water meters using handheld wrenches. Disassembling water meters for recycling. Replacing broken water meter box lids. Record keeping of meters changed.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age, responsible and dependable. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and carry such weight for at least 50 feet. Reading skills. Oral communication skills. Ability to carry handheld device while walking on sidewalks and uneven ground; opening water meter boxes; reading water meter display and entering numbers into handheld device. Working in inclement weather. Use of hand tools to change and disassemble water meters. Ability to operate a motor or electric vehicle.
Must possess a valid California Drivers License and have clean driving record.
SALARY RANGE: $15.53 to $17.145 per hour
HOURS: Approximately 20 hours per week; Monday – Friday; flexible.
