23rd Annual Perilous Plunge

Foot of F Street

The 23rd Annual Perilous Plunge will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 10:30am at the foot of F street in Eureka (Coast Guard Plaza).

The Perilous Plunge is the annual fundraiser for the Redwood Discovery Museum. The Plunge sets the museum’s budget for the year, and helps the organization provide scholarships, programs, exhibits, and more. This wacky, beloved community event allows the area’s only children’s science museum to continue offering  fun, educational, positive childhood experiences to Humboldt families and beyond. It brings out the kid in all participants, all while supporting hands-on educational fun for children of all ages.

Registration begins at 8:30am on the corner of 3rd and E streets. A parade led by Cal Poly’s Marching Lumberjacks will commence at 10:15am from the registration site to the docks. At 10:30, the bravest folks in Humboldt will jump into the bay, then head to the VIP tent for a soak in the hot tub, warm lunch, and a cocktail (21+). The awards ceremony (awards for Best Jump, Wackiest Costume, Rookie of the Year, and more) will follow the plunging.

There is still time to sign up to plunge! Visit the museum’s website at www.discovery-museum.org to register, or show up in your wackiest costume at 8:30am on March 9th with your pledges (plungers raise a minimum of $175 to receive a T-shirt) and get ready to support the Discovery Museum.

About the Redwood Discovery Museum:
Founded in 1995 by local teachers Ken Collins and Ken Pinkerton, the Discovery Museum’s mission is based on the model that people learn by doing. The Redwood Discovery Museum is the only interactive, hands-on learning institution in the region where people can actually touch, see, experiment, create, imagine, explore, and most of all – have fun. The positive childhood experiences provided at the Museum greatly influence the path of our community’s youth and adolescence. Our exhibits and programs steer children in the direction of pursuing further education and community investment by sparking creativity, building up confidence, and promoting the parent-child connection.
