Ah, the timeless magic of Joni Mitchell….what’s your favorite song? River? A Case of You? Help Me? There are so many to choose from, each a masterpiece of poetry and insight, all indelibly marked in the soundtrack of our lives. Since 2012, right around Joni’s November 7 birthday, Humboldt County has flocked to the Arcata Playhouse to hear local musicians perform her music. This year’s tribute show, the 8th annual, will again take place at the Arcata Playhouse on Saturday, November 9, at 8 pm, (doors open at 7:30) and, by popular demand, on Sunday, November 10, for a 2 pm matinee (doors open at 1:30). The shows typically sell out, a testament to the enduring impact of Joni Mitchell’s music.

This year’s show will feature songs from 10 of her 17 albums, including some of her most popular ones. The ensemble varies the song list from year to year, so returning audiences hear a different selection each time. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of her second album, Clouds, and the 45th anniversary of her classic Court and Spark, so the show will feature a number of songs from these albums. The ensemble includes some very well-known Humboldt singers and musicians: Morgan Corviday, Jan Bramlett, Marla Joy, Mike LaBolle, Marcia Mendels, Chris Manspeaker, Julie Froblom, Tina Garsen, Leslie Quinn, Andrea Zvaleko, Laura Krueger, and Peggy Martinez. Tickets are available locally at Wildberries in Arcata, The Works in Eureka, and online at https://www.joni2019.brownpapertickets.com/. The shows usually sell out, so get your tickets in advance!
