A Trip to Cowtown: Online Musical Film Premier

Online

This is a Shelter-In-Place offering online. The Cowtown Serenaders, a performance art duo created by Sanctuary Resident Artists Tayloranne Finch & Daniel Nickerson, are excited to present a film version of the marionette musical “A Trip To Cowtown.” This performance was created for the road, with tours expanding to the Bay Area, Oregon and Washington. Now with tour plans on hold, it’ll be made available to all as a film premiering April 30th. Using homemade marionette puppets, textiles, and props, the show tells the story of Peggy Pilgrim and Toe-Tapping Tommy, two wandering spirits who become friends in a world where all travel and spontaneity has been banned by the Good Old Government. Nobody involved in the making of this puppet show had any clue how relevant this story would become, and the show’s theme of personal growth and resiliency, in spite of obstacles, now seems universally relevant. On Thursday, April 30th, a live stream introduction to the show will be conducted on Facebook Live at 7pm, followed by the debut of the film. Additionally, the Cowtown Serenaders recorded an album at the Sanctuary last fall, “Dream Songs for the Endless Weekend.” J Street Regulars Hannah Lee Hoffman, Alison Kinney, Cyrus Smith, and James Zeller all lent their talents to this folksy album.
