Album Rease Party with Piet Dalmolen and Therese FItzMaurice
We are thrilled to announce the release of TWO albums from TWO of Humboldt’s favorite performers, Piet Dalmolen and Therese FitzMaurice. Boxes and Bones is a spoken word album featuring the poetry of Therese FItzMaurice, and the original compositions of Jesse Jonathon. Amy Day’s powerful voice adds an incredible melodic presence to many of the pieces. Music of My Mind by Piet Dalmolen is a solo guitar interpretation of Stevie Wonder’s iconic work. Therese’s Extended Bio: Therese Fitzmaurice is releasing her debut album, Boxes and Bones, with musicians, Jesse Jonathon, Piet Dalmolen and Amy Day. The album is a collaboration of spoken word accompanied by original compositions varying in style from West African drumming to avante garde soundscapes to the beauty of a springtime melody. The cover art was generously donated by Joyce Jonte. At the release shows, current artist in residence at Redwood Raks, Amantha Wood’s choreography will feature Wood, FitzMaurice and 7 year old Cadence FitzMaurice dancing to a track from the album, Cherry Blossoms. FitzMaurice’s, nine year old son Thomas, appears on the track Sacred Drum along with her husband, Tommy (Drummer: Love Bush, Bump Foundation). Therese FitzMaurice, along with Vanessa Vrtiak, cofounded A Reason to Listen poetry collective in 2004. They host the wildly popular, 13-year-strong, Humboldt Poetry, the first Thursday of the month at Siren’s Song Tavern in Eureka. FitzMaurice has published three books of poetry, How to Love this Woman (2016), Signature of Time (2008), and Triangle Blueprints (2006). She has coproduced two full length performance pieces with Vanessa Vritiak, Excavating the History of Love (2007), and Resuscitating the Sequence of Sacrifice (2011). Piet Dalmolen began his music career at HSU where he developed his skills as a guitarist, composer and bandleader. After graduating, he spent the better part of a decade touring with Jam-Rock band The Nucleus. He has since performed with improv musical giants such as Skerik and DJ Logic as well as local favorites B.Swizlo, Josephine Johnson and Joanne Rand. As an accomplished musician, he offers inspired solos, gritty guitar riffs, and gentle production guidance when called upon at Universal Balance studio. As the recording engineer at Universal Balance Studio (Arcata, CA), Piet Dalmolen has captured over 100 albums spanning a wide range of performers from Fred Wesley’s classic funk to the bustling bluegrass of Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band). At Humboldt State University’s Center Arts, Piet has run sound for iconic music legends including B.B. King, David Grisman, Amie Mann and Matisyahu. He has created a unique opportunity for recording artists. His professional studio is just a few miles from the picturesque, quiet coastline of Northern CA where artists for generations have found inspiration. Piet’s calm presence helps coax the best possible music out of projects he records.
