All Level Afro-Brazilian Drumming Workshop with Abel Damasceno

Join Samba do Mar Humboldt and Samba da Alegria as we welcome Abel Damasceno for his first ever workshop in Humboldt County! He is a professional Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and a native of Salvador, the capital of Bahia, Brazil. Abel has lived and taught in the Bay Area since 2007. This workshop is your opportunity to deepen your Afro-Brazilian percussion studies while having a super fun time with your fellow community members. Drums provided. All levels welcome!

About Abel:
Abel Damasceno is a multi-instrumentalist who’s been a student of Bahian rhythms most of his life, and has learned from esteemed masters like Bira Monteiro from FUNCEB Pelourinho. He’s been playing with various bands since he was 15, and has shared the stage with renowned Brazilian artists such as Carla Visi, Mariene Castro, Margareth Menezes, Carlinhos Brown, and Tonho Materia of the Bloco Afro Olodum. In the Bay Area, he has directed the samba reggae drumming group Batala San Francisco, has served as Head of Percussion at Casa de Cultura (World Dance Center), and currently plays with the bands Sambadá and Tambores e Samba.
