Artist Reception
Reception for watercolor painter Carolyn Cook and ceramicist Elaine Shore. Join us for snacks, wine pour benefitting Trinidad Coastal Land Trust, and an opportunity to meet many of the gallery’s 25 local artists.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Carolyn Cook is captivated by the wild and diverse landscapes unique to our area. Her work aims to capture the variety of natural elements that draw our attention: reflections of wet sands, stormy skies, glorious sunsets and majestic redwoods. She has been working in watercolors for over 30 years and uses both wet and dry brush techniques.
Elaine Shore works almost exclusively in porcelain and her current work embraces the technique of “sgraffito” in which images are carved through a black underglaze to create striking white on black designs on the thrown ceramic forms. “The key to sgraffito is to use line variations to invoke darker or lighter areas, very similar to block printing.” Her imagery includes whales, birds and flowers.
