Join nature enthusiasts, history buffs, and animal lovers on part of the historic Hurley Ranch, located on Kneeland Prairie. Hike through prairie and woodland areas that are both beautiful and historic. Meet some of the happiest animals on earth and enjoy a vegan BBQ (BBQ at 12:30 pm). During the guided walk you will learn about: The pack trail junction, where routes from Eureka and Union (Arcata) converged. The two young Hurley brothers, ages 11 and 12, who took over running the ranch after their father was shot and killed; they paid off the mortgage, added 200 acres and built a ranch house. The Mawenok Indians, who lived along the Mad River in the vicinity of Maple Creek and came to Kneeland Prairie in summer to hunt and gather.
