Bambi Ballet
The Dance Scene Studio and Sundance Ballet Company’s 12th annual dance recital will be the classical story ballet Bambi. The two performances will take place on Saturday, June 28 at 7pm and Sunday, June 29 at 2pm at The Eureka High Auditorium with a full cast of Sundance Ballet Company dancers and Dance Scene Studio students.
Prance along on the adventure with Sundance Ballet Company members Emilia Prim who will star as Bambi, Sophia Acorn as Faline, Jessamy Moore as Thumper the rabbit, Isabella Acorn as Flower the skunk, and Miles Grant who will dance as the Forest Deer Prince. Forest friends including adorable bunnies, owls, butterflies, a lively squirrel, and more help Bambi navigate the forest life.
Adventures of Bambi and her friends include dealing with hunters, evading a forest fire, and celebrating springtime with a raindrop waltz. Locally hand-built props and painted backdrops will delight audiences of all ages. Everyone will be entertained by the comical pointe piece featuring deer on ice in a clever rendition of Les Patineurs (The Skater’s Waltz) from 1882. The two-hundred performers include Dance Scene Studio students and Sundance Ballet Company members, apprentices, and Junior Company members. Sundance Ballet Company Artistic Director Carrie Badeaux and studio instructors provide original choreography to this amusing and happily ever after tale.
Carrie Badeaux says, “This ballet is sweet and exciting with vividly colorful animal character costumes and life-like stage settings. This is our 12th spring production and it has been so much fun to build this creative show.”
Assorted classical music and an original composition by company member Miles Grant will be the score of the ballet, which is based on the famous novel by Felix Salten Bambi, A Life in the Woods, a story of a little white-tailed deer, and some elements from the 1942 Disney animated film “Bambi.”
The second half of the show is a delight with an array of dances outside of the Bambi theme with dance styles including Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. The recent regionally award-winning Scene Team will also present five dances by choreographer and coach, Brittney Christensen. The closing showpiece is a 1990s inspired piece with challenging partnering, tableaus, and lifts by choreographer Carrie Badeaux titled, “Lighning Crashes.” The whole show, including a fifteen minute intermission will run two hours and is appropriate for the whole family ages three and up.
The Sundance Ballet Company is the performance company of the Dance Scene Studio and is a DreamMaker project of the Ink People.
