Big Red: Ancient Redwood Hike

Sanctuary Forest

Join Sanctuary Forest on Saturday, September 7th for the Big Red: Ancient Redwood hike, held in a section of virgin Mattole headwaters forest. Hike leaders will share stories about the Mattole community’s historic efforts to preserve different areas of this forest, including the 2,000 year old Big Red, which sparked the creation of Sanctuary Forest in 1987. Meet at the Sanctuary Forest office at 8:45 a.m. Bring a lunch and plenty of water and wear sturdy hiking shoes. This hike is a rigorous, steep, 5-mile hike on uneven terrain.
