Birding New Guinea
Join the Redwood Region Audubon Society on Thursday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. for a program by Ken Burton. The tropical island of New Guinea is one of the biologically and culturally richest areas on the planet and one of the least developed, therefore it ranks high on many travelers’ bucket lists. Despite its appeal, New Guinea also has a reputation for being among the world’s most challenging and dangerous travel destinations, making it hard for most tourists to visit. Ken Burton recently ventured to Papua New Guinea with two friends and lived to tell you about it! He’ll share photos, videos, and audio recordings of some of the wildlife, people, and scenery they encountered, including representatives of the island’s seven endemic bird families. Programs are held at Six Rivers Masonic Lodge, 251 Bayside Road, Arcata, or via the Zoom link www.rras.org. Drinks and goodies are served at 7:00 p.m., the program begins at 7:30.
