Boycott Chevron Banner Drop
People of Humboldt! Humboldt Democratic Socialists of America (HDSA) invites you to stand up and speak out by supporting an upcoming family-friendly Banner Drop calling for a Boycott of ALL Chevron gas and fuel stations! We are gathering to show opposition to Israel’s Genocide apartheid state. Enough is enough!
Why Boycott Chevron? Chevron Corporation and its subsidiary, Chevron Mediterranean Limited (CML), provide fuel and gas directly to Israel. Israel has utilized these resources to exacerbate the Palestinian Genocide. In fact, Chevron provides 70% of Israel’s fuel. They have spent tens of millions of dollars lobbying the American government, including energy issues related to Israel. Without Chevron’s support, the Apartheid state of Israel would struggle to succeed. We also know that Shell was boycotted in the 1980’s-1990’s for their participation in the South African Apartheid. The boycott was ultimately successful and Shell withdrew from providing oil to South Africa.
With people starving, a seemingly endless genocide, dozens of ecological crimes across the globe, and the constant denial of basic human rights, can you stand while the state of Israel is not only fed but engorged by Chevron? Chevron’s actions reflect their stance that profit matters more than people. Will you stand with us to demand that Chevron Divests from Israel’s war machine NOW!
So, what have we done to ask our local Chevrons to divest? HDSA directly approached the Redwood Oil franchise Chevrons and asked to speak with the owners. We provided a letter detailing why we wished to speak to the owners, and also sent it to Redwood Oil corporate via certified mail. Without a doubt, they received our many requests to chat. We were ignored by owner Peter and HR Manager Ashley. Our objective is not to harm the workers, rather to pressure the franchises and corporations to divest and demand that Chevron as a whole entity divest. We will not stop until we win!
This Banner Drop is on Sunday, March 22nd at 1pm. It will be at the Arcata Pedestrian Overpass Footbridge by G & 17th. There will be live music.
