Brisa Roché Trio
Paris jazz sensation Brisa Roché makes rare U.S. appearance at the Playhouse. Savagely emotional and relatively unexpected jazz standards from the 30’s 40’s and 50’s, interpreted by singer Brisa Roché. Steve Smith on piano and Baron Wolfe on bass spelling out spacious structures, with plenty of air to fly on and room for fun. No scatting, plenty of soaring and laughing, with an element of story-telling not always associated with “jazz” or standards. Born on a breezy Californian day in 1978, Brisa Roché was raised without electricity on the northwest US coast, where she surfed the waves made by an artist mother and adventurer father, she eventually moved to Paris and plunged into role of bandleader and frontwoman, improvising 5 nights a week in the stone “caves” of St. Germain, cutting her teeth and learning to command the stage. Discovered by Blue Note and signed to EMI in 2004, Brisa released a critically acclaimed. She has since taken Paris by storm. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see her at home in Humboldt!
