Building Bird Friendly Yards & Communities

Six Rivers Masonic Lodge

Three short talks will demonstrate a number of ways you can create bird-friendly habitats, starting in your own yard. Donna Wildearth will discuss recent research conducted by Dr. Douglas Tallamy that focuses on the importance of caterpillars for baby birds. Her presentation will include pictures of some of our local native plants that produce the most caterpillars. Donna is passionate about plants and has converted her lawn into a native garden bursting with wildlife. Louise Bacon-Ogden, founder of Strictly for the Birds, will share her experience attracting and feeding birds with seed, feeders and other garden elements. The Bird Friendly Yards Committee will present information about Catios, which are outdoor cat enclosures that keep domestic cats and wild birds both living healthfully. Presenters will be available after the talks for informal discussion and show and tell. You are encouraged to bring your questions and success stories. Refreshments at 7 p.m. and the program starts at 7:30 p.m.
