Burning Around Your Home: Native Grassland Restoration

Sanctuary Forest

Join Sanctuary Forest on Sunday, May 5 for our first hike of the season: Burning Around Your Home: Native Grassland Restoration. Hosted by the Cocking family, this tour/workshop on their property in the King Range will be a walking tour that focuses on key components of prescribed fire planning, ecological benefits of fire, using prescribed fire to enhance defensible space, and fire as a part of grassland restoration. Participants will have a chance to view the plant and animal responses to a prescribed burn conducted in the fall of 2018, hear from and speak with the landowners and other prescribed burn professionals who helped plan and implement the burn. Meet at Sanctuary Forest’s office in Whitethorn at 10am to carpool. Bring lunch and water, dress in layers. For more information, contact us, or call 986-1087 ext. 9#.
