Butterfly Field Trip
Join the local chapter of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA-Redwood) for the final butterfly field trip of the year! We will explore the late-season butterfly diversity of Mad River Slough State Wildlife Area! This is a great event to learn local butterflies and is a perfect entry to backyard butterfly identification. The field trip will start at 11:00 am on September 13. We’ll meet at the Mad River Slough parking lot (40.8646589, -124.1215948) before hitting the trail. Note that portions of this hike will be through vegetation is often over three feet tall. This tall vegetation is great habitat for the insects and will help us get very close to field crescents, west coast ladies, and maybe even a few anise swallowtails! Since the vegetation is tall, please be sure to wear long pants and sturdy shoes. This event will be an out-and-back hike along mostly flat, but sometimes uneven ground. Participants can pace themselves and easily depart at any time.
