Cal Poly Humboldt Jazz Combos Concert

Join jazz band leader Dan Aldag and the Cal Poly Humboldt School of Dance, Music, and Theatre as they present this semester’s Jazz Combos on Saturday, April 30th at 8:00 p.m. in Fulkerson Recital Hall. Concert tickets are $10 General, $5 Child, and FREE for Cal Poly Humboldt students with ID and may be purchased at the door or in advance at centerarts.humboldt.edu. From the “All Events” drop down menu select “School of Dance, Music, and Theatre” and select your event. Proof of COVID vaccination and booster is still required for all guests on campus. At press time, the wearing of facemasks is not mandatory, but it is strongly encouraged. If attending the concert in person is not an option, a free Livestream can be viewed at https://youtu.be/ke8w9jl82Ow. There are three jazz combos this semester. The Noon Combo features Eddie Kallen on trumpet, Nick De Anda on guitar, Patty McHaney on bass, and Carlos Dailey on drums. They play jazz classics from several different eras, including Miles Davis’s “Four,” Chick Corea’s “Spain,” and “Strasbourg/St. Denis” by Roy Hargrove. The 1:00 Combo is Charlie Teague on guitar, Laith Hart on bass, and Jordan Bolla on drums. They’re playing “Road Song” by Wes Montgomery, “Nuages” by Django Reinhardt, and Freddie Hubbard’s “Red Clay.” The 2:00 Combo features Joel Costello on bari sax, Keith Staats on piano, Jeff Ruiz on bass, and Josiah Sanne on drums, performing several well-known jazz standards including Milt Jackson’s “Bags’ Groove” and Juan Tizol and Duke Ellington’s “Caravan.”
