Cal Poly Humboldt Opera Workshop
The Department of Dance, Music, and Theatre at Cal Poly Humboldt is excited to present Opera Workshop, an evening of musical performances through the centuries. The workshop is directed by Elisabeth Harrington and features 14 performers—12 Cal Poly Humboldt Students and 2 community members. Opera workshop is open to all interested singers and offers performers a chance to develop their skills as solo and ensemble singers within a dramatic setting. Join us Thursday, December 5th at 7:30 pm at the Fulkerson Recital Hall at Cal Poly Humboldt to experience the voices of our talented students and community members. You can Purchase tickets at the door or online at tickets.humboldt.edu/dance-music-theatre. Tickets are $15 general, $5 child, and FREE for Cal Poly Humboldt Students with ID.
The program includes scenes from Mozart’s Cossi Fan Tutti and The Magic Flute, a traditional English Madrigal, and many Broadway musicals from the last 60 years. Director Elisabeth Harrington spoke about the building of the program, “The program I have arranged reflects the diverse personalities, voices and experience of the ensemble participants. This is definitely a workshop—some scenes will be quite polished, while others will be in varying stages of development.
Interestingly, none of the students currently enrolled are music majors. Several performers—Ash, Willow, Savannah, and Dominic—had lead and supporting roles in our production of Into the Woods last spring. Craig Benson is a very experienced performer who has sung many lead roles in local theater productions and Victor Guerrero completed the music degree from Cal Poly Humboldt in 2017.”
In addition to the Operas and Madrigals, the program includes songs from, Waitress by Sarah Bareilles, Pippen, the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Fiorello, Beauty and the Beast, Alice by Heart, A little Night Music, Phantom of the Opera, South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof, and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Avery Alexander.
