Cal Poly Humboldt Outdoor Adventures - Sea Kayaking 101

Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center

Sea Kayaking 101 is a course designed to teach the fundamental basics of sea kayaking in a supportive, safety-focused environment. Led by Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center’s American Canoe Association Certified Instructors, this course provides you with the skills and confidence needed to get you sea kayaking independently on Humboldt Bay. Successful completion of this course will enable you to rent our Sea Kayaks for your personal use.

Participants will learn essential terminology, basic paddle strokes, wet exits, and self recovery techniques. Instruction is on and in the water so come prepared to get wet. All necessary equipment will be provided. Please bring your own personal equipment such as water, snacks, a change of clothes, a towel, and anything else you need to stay comfortable on the water.

Sea Kayaking 101 is ideal for those with little or no prior experience, as well as those looking to build a strong foundation before kayaking recreationally or advancing to higher-level instruction.
