“Card Show” Art Opening
The Card Show
at the Sanctuary, 1301 J Street
Opening Reception: December 11th, 6pm-9pm
A perennial favorite in Humboldt County, the Sanctuary is bringing back the “Card Show.” Previously hosted by the Carpet Gallery and Showroom in Eureka and organized by the Empire Squared arts collective, the Card Show comes back to life once more at the Sanctuary. Opening reception will take place during Arts Arcata on December 11th at 1301 J Street.
The exhibition will feature unique sets of playing cards by 12 visual artists. Included in the exhibition are all of the founding members of Empire Squared arts collective, as well as Katie Belknap, co-founder of the Sanctuary, Minnesota print-makers Lauren Kinney and Patrick Vincent, Sanctuary print-lab manager Katy Warner, and many more.
The opening reception will feature auditory accompaniment in the form of an interactive musical board game by The Sanctuary Furniture Ensemble. Created by musicians Daniel Nickerson and Jonathan Kipp, the board game will be performed by gallery attendees under the direction of the artists./
