Clan Dyken at Arcata Playhouse, Sun., Nov. 16
Dance the evening away with the legendary activist band of brothers, Clan Dyken, as they bring their Beauty Way benefit to the Arcata Playhouse on Sunday, November 16. Doors open at 6:30 with a finger food potluck followed by Clan Dyken at 7:30pm. All proceeds will benefit the native peoples of Big Mountain, Arizona. It’s a sliding scale donation of $10-20 with no one turned away at the door. You can also donate survival supplies, such as shovels and dry goods. This event is sponsored by Environmentally Sound Promotions. To volunteer or for info email esp@asis.com.
Based in California’s Calaveras County Foothills, Clan Dyken, formed by brothers Mark and Bear Dyken, has harmonized, toured, activated, and entertained for nearly four decades. This is music from the grassroots of community, rallies, and demonstrations. They’ve always been willing to lend a hand to a worthy campaign.
The Beauty Way Tour is a unique annual pilgrimage of music and healing. The shows raise funds and awareness of the resistance to forced relocation our Dine’ relatives have endured for fifty years. Said Bear Dyken, “The fight to remain in the place where The Creator put them speaks to our larger family and resonates deeply with the themes of resilience, connection to nature, and support for Indigenous communities, especially those fighting for clean water and land rights.”
For over three decades, the Beauty Way Tour has supported the effort to bring food, tools, warm clothes, household supplies, animal feed, and firewood to elders and families holding on to land, language, songs, ceremonies, and culture in the high desert plateau between the four sacred mountains of what we call Northern Arizona. When you come to a show you join in solidarity with your community and others around the world who understand how important it is to do our part in keeping the people in place.
