Pianist Ian Scarfe, the founder and director of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, returns to the Arcata Playhouse for a special program of solo piano music just for the romantics of Humboldt County.
The concert will feature classical masterpieces from the great Romantic era, works by composers such as Frederic Chopin, Johannes Brahms, Edvard Grieg, and Robert and Clara Schumann. Also in the mix will be more contemporary works by American composers Amy Beach and Philip Glass.
Scarfe has a busy touring career as a pianist, and holds a faculty position at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is well known for his thoughtful and charismatic stage presence - audiences can expect to hear stories about the composers, learn about the context of the music in history, and enjoy brief listening guides to prepare for diving into such rich musical masterpieces.
