Conservation Lecture: Salmon
The Sequoia Park Zoo Conservation Lecture Series continues with a lecture on November 8, 2017, “Monitoring Salmon Movements Through Freshwater Creek” by Colin Anderson of California Department of Fish and Wildlife. His lecture will include a brief overview of freshwater fish habitat in Humboldt Bay and Freshwater Creek. He’ll discuss techniques used to monitor the juvenile and adult population of salmon in Freshwater Creek. The lecture will be held in the Zoo’s Flamingo Room at 7:00 PM and preceded by a reception at 6:30 PM. Colin Anderson received his BS in Fisheries at Humboldt State University in 1988 and his MS in Fisheries at HSU in 2011. For the last 19 years, Colin has been involved in salmonid research and monitoring in Humboldt Bay and Northern California. Colin’s specialty is studying the movement of freshwater fish in Freshwater Creek. Currently, Colin is the project leader for the Humboldt Bay Coho Monitoring Program and is a mentor for the Watershed Stewards program.
