Datablend follows up on last week’s inaugural #MongolianNightz with two artists at the peak of their creative prowess: Choongum (San Francisco) and Dat-1 (Arcata). Also, the night will include a very special guest that will blow the crowd away. Make sure to get there early as the special guest will open the night!

Datablend is a collective of producers, djs, artists, turntablists and emcees, firmly rooted in hip hop and beatmaking. With talent like Thoth, Mr. Lif, Drassaur Monumental, TÆO, Cacao, Illenium, and Mikey, they look towards the future with innovation and optimism. Like most crews, we collaborate, share ideas/beats, critique and attempt to expand constantly.

Northern Cali producer Choongum creates lush sonic environments with his meticulously crafted and densely layered tracks. This remains true whether he’s dropping a spaced-out banger like “Moon Phases” on Potholes Music’s label compilation or embracing summery vibes across his vibrant Fantasy EP. It’s no surprise, then, that two of his biggest influences are forward-thinking hip-hop legends Digable Planets and ground-breaking composer Hans Zimmer. At just 19 years old, he’s already established himself as a noted artist, receiving accolades from the likes of the Needle Drop, No Fear of Pop, and Decoder magazine.

In his own words, “Started Djing jungle and drum and bass in ‘97 which lead me to become a producer. Sharpening my skill to then join experimental hip-hop group “Coaxial” in ‘04. Leaving the east coast to reside in Long Beach, CA and signing with Gold Standard Labs with band mate Beegs Alchemy. Calling on friends Ikey Owens (Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents) and Omar Rodriguez Lopez (Mars Volta, At the Drive In) to lay down some live recordings on the EP “The Phantom Syndrome”. “Coaxial” then released a self titled full length album with guitarist Jesse Carzello (Free Moral Agents/Bobby Blunders) and Zach Godlove.
In ‘07 I found myself back on the east playing bass in “Pygmy Lush” (Lovitt Record) and almost non-stop touring for the next three years.
Now focusing on my solo work producing a more dance oriented sound but not without the heavy darkness.”
