Dryfarm Field Tour & Dinner
Come join the College of the Redwoods Agriculture program and Organic Seed Alliance for a dinner and field tour of the organic and dryfarm crops and trials at the College of the Redwoods Sustainable Agriculture Farm. The evening will start with a free meal of farm-fresh produce and local grass-fed or vegie burgers, as well as taste tests of organically bred dryfarmed sweet corn, tomato, and summer squash varieties. After dinner, you can see multiple varieties of crops dry farmed and irrigated. Vegetable production equipment will be shown including a paperpot transplanter, water wheel transplanter, and more! At the Organic Seed Alliance trial plots, you can learn about vegetable growing, seed production, and plant breeding under dryfarm practices, where crops are grown just using the moisture stored in the soil from the winter. You will be able to see – and taste – how new organically-bred sweet corn, squash, bean, and tomato varieties perform under both dryfarm and irrigated conditions.
