Dumb Movies With Smart People: “The Core”

Have you ever been watching a disaster movie and thought, ‘Wait, could that REALLY happen?’ Have you ever watched an actor playing a scientist and wondered, ‘Is everything they are saying completely made up, or is that really a thing?’ If so, this is the film series for you! This month, we are showing “The Core” In this disaster film, the earth’s core has halted its normal rotation, dooming the planet. A team of scientists plan a descent to the core itself in a desperate effort to restart the spin. Will the help to get the world spinning again? And more importantly: is anything in this movie even remotely accurate? After the movie, we have local seismologist/geologist Lori Dengler available to answer any questions, and let us know what the movie got right, and what it got so, so wrong.
