My Man Godfrey (1936)
My Man Godfrey is based on the novel titled 1101 Park Avenue by Eric Hatch. In the depths of the Depression, dizzy socialite Irene Bullock hires the down-and-out Godfrey as the butler to her wildly eccentric family. Soon, the dramatizing Irene is in love with her “protégé”…who feels strongly that a romance between servant and employer is out of place, regardless of that servant’s mysterious past.
