The Thin Man (1934)
The Thin Man is based on the novel of the same name by Dashiell Hammett. Nick Charles, a former private detective who gave up gumshoeing when he married heiress Nora, becomes embroiled in the search for a killer and very nearly loses his own life in the bargain. Egged on by Nora—who finds detecting very exciting—Nick manages to unravel the mystery in spite of the witty and sophisticated couple’s near-constant consumption of cocktails. Starring William Powell and Myrna Loy. Directed by W. S. Van Dyke
