Environmental Challenges of Marijuana Cultivation on Northern California Forests
Eureka High School Lecture Hall
Join the Redwood Region Audubon Society for a free presentation by Dr. Greta Wengert, assistant director and senior ecologist for Integral Ecology Research Center. She will talk about the direct ecological effects of marijuana cultivation on forest wildlife and their ecosystems in California’s national forests. She also will discuss the recent discoveries of more indirect, covert environmental effects of these activities, ranging from poisoned wildlife to contaminants in soil. Dr. Engert will highlight the opportunities for estimating these effects across the landscape, and the extent of this egregious problem. She also will present some short-term solutions. Bring a mug to enjoy shade-grown coffee, and come fragrance-free.
