EXIT Theatre presents: Lesbo Solo: A Gay History Play

Exit Theatre

Lesbo Solo: A Gay History Play, presents the powerful arc of the gay liberation movement over the past six decades as seen through Terry Baum’s plays and humorous personal narrative. Beginning in 1963, when Terry Baum’s beloved high school teacher almost loses her job over rumors of lesbianism, Lesbo Solo continues as Baum and the Lavender Menace disrupt a feminist conference in New York City demanding acceptance of lesbians in the women’s movement. In 1981 her play Dos Lesbos, A Play By, For & About Perverts, written with Carolyn Meyers, opened at a dyke bar in Oakland, California then was translated and produced around the world, including an Italian production that offended the Pope during World Pride 2000 in Rome – and inspired the first anthology of lesbian plays (Places, Please 1985, edited by Kate McDermott). Then there’s the time she marched in the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade in a contingent so politically incorrect that no one would march with her.
