Breaking Down the Box

Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Join PARC (Peoples’ Action for Rights and Community), radio host Sista Soul, and The Humboldt UU Social Action Committee for the excellent new film ‘Breaking Down the Box’. This free event is part of monthly Statewide Coordinated Actions To End Solitary Confinement. Refreshments and after-film discussion with KHSU’s Sista Soul! Earlier in the day, come help distribute info in Arcata about ending solitary confinement. (details TBA) Call or email! Actions on the 23rd of each month emphasize the 23+ hours every day that people are in small concrete solitary cells. Actions on the 23rd to end this TORTURE are organized throughout CA, from San Diego to Arcata, and nationwide- including in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Florida. Locally, PARC has been active with the Prisoner Hunger Strike Solidarity Coalition (PHSS) since its inception in 2011. Statewide Coordinated Actions To End Solitary Confinement respond to the Pelican Bay SHU Short Corridor Collective Human Rights Movement which in Nov 2013 stated: “We want to consider the idea of designating a certain date each month as Prisoner Rights Day…our supporters would gather in locations throughout California to expose CDCR’s actions and rally support efforts to secure our rights.” Since March 2015, when the PHSS initiated this monthly effort, over 75 organizations, statewide in CA, nationwide, and globally, have co-sponsored and endorsed these actions. The movement is growing. Get informed and involved! Community-based pressure is vital to ending solitary confinement. STOP THE TORTURE. prisonerhungerstrikesolidarity.wordpress.com
