Free ZOO Conservation Lecture
FREE December Conservation Lecture at Sequoia Park Zoo EUREKA, CA – The Sequoia Park Zoo Conservation Lecture Series continues on December 13, 2017 with local artist and Explorers Club Fellow Susan Fox presenting “Art and Conservation in the Land of Blue Skies”. Observing her subjects in their natural habitat is a critical aspect of her creative process. Susan’s lecture will include her field journals, location paintings, and studio works. Much of her art is inspired by her contributions to conservation research on endangered and threatened species in Mongolia. Reception to meet the artist at 6:30 PM. The lecture to follow at 7:00 PM in the Zoo’s Flamingo Room. Susan Fox grew up in Humboldt County, CA and has always loved to draw animals. In 1997, she started to paint full-time in oil after working for fifteen years as a sign painter, graphic designer, and illustrator locally and in the Bay area. Susan received a BFA in Illustration from the Academy of Art University of San Francisco. She is a signature member of both the Society of Animal Artists and Artists for Conservation. Susan has traveled to Mongolia eleven times since 2005. There she has observed, photographed, and field sketched International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) species such as the Saiga antelope, Takhi/Przewalki’s horse, Eurasion Black vultures, wild Bactrian camels, white-napped cranes, and Gobi and Altai argali sheep.
