On April 19th, local DJs Pressure Anya are celebrating the one year anniversary of their monthly party called Fuego at The Pearl Lounge. The night features a mix of tropical sounds including Latino beats, Jamaican riddims and modern bass music. For this celebration, their bringing up DJ Sep from San Francisco’s Dub Mission. DJ Sep is the founder, promoter, and main resident DJ at Dub Mission. Voted Bay Area’s Best Reggae Club by S.F. Bay Guardian readers and now in its 18th year, Dub Mission is one of the longest-running parties in the world, presenting cutting-edge dub, roots reggae and dancehall every Sunday at the Elbo Room. For 22 years, Sep was also on Bay Area radio: first at college radio station KUSF and later at Berkeley’s public radio station, KPFA. She’s the co-compiler (with producer Shockman) of Babylon Is Ours: The USA in Dub, a collection of all-exclusive American dub tracks (on Select Cuts). In 2009, Mochipet’s Daly City Records released her remixes (with Jason Short) of “Get Your Dub Wet” featuring Juakali and Mista Chatman. Sep has won a Goldie Award (Bay Guardian) and has been nominated for Best DJ (SF Weekly Music Awards). She has spun at venues in London, New York, Washington DC, Miami, and Los Angeles and has opened for the likes of Sly & Robbie, The Wailers, Culture, Big Youth, Les Nubians, Rachid Taha, Kinky, and The Cinematic Orchestra among many others.
