He was brilliant, dashing, crude, mesmerizing and outrageous..and always completely in control and focus. He spent his youth scouring the ancient repositories of knowledge scattered throughout the mideast and beyond. His travels took him to remote hidden valleys of persia and afghanistan, Tibet and Nepal, and to Mongolia and Egypt. It is quite probable that during this early part of his life he was a Russian intelligence agent, working for Russian interests in Tibet against those of the English, who were based in India, and his adventures were Bond-ish in their intrigue and flair. He was shot three times, all by stray bullets, all almost fatal wounds. He used his access to continue his search for knowledge, driven by the question that had been burning in him since his mid-teens: “What is the sense and significance of life on earth, and human life in particular?” He described himself as a teacher of dance. He was a man of knowledge..
