Giant Steps: 100 Years of John Coltrane

After Hours plays the music of John Coltrane at the Arcata Playhouse on Friday, September 18; five days before the centenary of his birth. Ramsey Isaacs (drums), Matt Seno (piano) and Lee Phillips (bass) are joined by Russ Thallheimer on tenor saxophone, with tap dancer Miles Schmidt sitting in on “Equinox.” The program runs selections from “A Love Supreme” (possibly the whole album), Giant Steps, Naima, Blue Train and more. After Hours sold out this room last December with their Vince Guaraldi show. First of five nights at the Playhouse. Doors 6:30, music at 7:00. $20 through Thursday, September 17 — $25 at the door.
