Growing Up in Arcata Marsh
Join photographer and videographer Alan Peterson for a look at Arcata Marsh’s youngest residents. See hummingbirds, river otters, raptors, songbirds and more in footage and photos captured by Peterson as they grow up in an abundant and competitive environment. This media-rich lecture covers how ravens encourage their young to fly, how Northern Harrier mothers and fathers take on different roles to protect and feed their offspring, how changing habitats require otter parents to change the lesson plans for their young, and other animal parenting stories from our local biodiversity hotspot. This lecture will be shown alongside Peterson’s series of Southern Chilean and Antarctic animal photographs “Wildlife at the Bottom of the Globe,” on exhibit through the month of May.
