Folk duo from Mendocino perform the opening concert for the fall season at The Old Steeple in Ferndale. Gwyneth Moreland’s gift for open-hearted storytelling is perfectly suited to the modern art of folk music. Paired with her angelic vocals and the silky smooth bass lines of veteran bassist David Hayes, this duo creates a gracefully simple and pure sound. “Slaughterhouse Gulch,” the first single from Moreland’s latest album, landed her on the Folk Airplay charts and debuted at #3 earlier this year. Moreland and Hayes hail from Mendocino, just a few hours south of Humboldt, and lead a similar existence that we are accustomed to here: picturesque rural life, strong family ties, and making and recording music at home. It’s with love and experience that Moreland’s songs manage to strike deep in the listener’s heart, leaving concertgoers around the world wanting more. Operated by Ferndale Music Company, The Old Steeple presents world-class musicians in a beautiful 115-year-old former church in Ferndale.
