Hemp Fest Day 1: Comedy Kick-Off

Mateel Community Center

We’re pleased to anounce that Friday’s Comedy Kick-Off Event will again be hosted by comedian Ngaio Bealum and a talented host of hand picked comics including Ed Greer and Klee Wiggins. A now perennial favorite, the Hemp Fest Comedy Kick-Off Event is one of the most hilariously funny and entertaining nights of the year!

Ngaio, sometimes known as the Chocolate Mountain of Joy, has appeared at just about every Hempfest and cannabis themed event on the West Coast.

Ngaio (Oon-guy-yo), the former Editor and Publisher of West Coast Cannabis Magazine, has entertained stoners and non stoners (but mostly stoners) all over the world for more than 20 years. The High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. the Seattle Hempfest, The Humboldt Harvest Fest, The Posrtland Hempstalk. The State of Jefferson Hemp Expo. These are but a handful of events where Ngaio’s brand of fast paced yet laid back storytelling, combined with his unique 420 friendly style, never fails to delight the crowd.

He has opened for Weird Al, Dave Chappele, Outkast, Cee-lo Green, and The Black Eyed Peas, to name just a few.

This is his 6th time at the Mateel Center, and he is really, really looking forward to it, because he prefers outdoor over indoor.

Ed Greer

Ed Greer is a staple of the Los Angeles comedy scene.

This sought-after comedian performs at Hollywood’s hottest venues including the Improv, The Comedy Store, and the Laugh Factory. He also headlines alt venues and comic book conventions as one of the most sought after ‘nerd’ comics in America.

He has been described as fearlessly dynamic, highly original, thought-provoking and completely hilarious. CraveOnline describes his comedy as, “all at once intelligent and approachable, egalitarian and niche.” Adding, “Ed stands out in his delivery, which borrows equally from the college professor and the street preacher.” The USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism says that, “his presence is one that captivates the room.”

Greer hasn’t met a crowd he didn’t enjoy… or want to destroy.

Klee Wiggins

Klee Wiggins is a writer and comic originally from San Francisco, CA (now based in Los Angeles).

Her rare breed of comedy has been described as “nerd girl sexy time” and “where humor, raunch and intellect converge in a beautiful three-way gang bang”; “look at them titties,” has also been used in reference to Klee but she suspects that has nothing to do with her comedy. She has opened for a number of major comics including Tony Rock, the late Mitch Mullany, Maronzio Vance, Ruben Paul, Dane Cook and Bob Saget. Klee has also performed and hosted at some of California biggest clubs including The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, The Comedy Union and the Improv (Hollywood, Sacramento, San Francisco and Brea, CA).

In addition to her flourishing comedy career, Klee was a polarizing guest on Maronzio Vance’s Just Killing Time podcast and is favorite on Jackie Kashian’s podcast The Dork Forest as well as a regular guest host on the Angry Dorks podcast produce through SkidRow Studios. A regular performer at the Nerdist Theater in Los Angeles check for her on several episodes of the upcoming season of the hit webseries NerdTerns and play along with the drinking game based around her appearances. Klee also recently co-starred in the highly praised short film, Thugs: The Musical written by and starring fellow San Francisco comedian Kevin Avery (Totally Biased w/ W. Kamau Bell). The award-winning film also stars fellow comics David Alan Grier, Margaret Cho and Baron Vaughn, actress Rachel True (The Craft) and Prodigal Son (of Wu-Tang Clan).

…as both Ken Jeong and Tony Rock always say, “If you see one (female) comic this year, make sure you see KLEE WIGGINS.”
