Homage to the Messengers: the music of Kenny Dorham
Creative Sanctuary, James Zeller and Ramsey Isaacs will pay homage to Kenny Dorham, the great trumpeter and composer who Art Blakey referred to as “the uncrowned king”. Dorham, known as “K.D.”, was present on Art Blakey’s first recording in 1947 and was a member of the original “Jazz Messengers” group in 1954-55 with Blakey and Horace Silver.
The “Homage” concert will feature Dorham compositions from the intricately beautiful ballads to hard swinging tunes from the Jazz Messengers, his own groups and collaborations with the great Joe Henderson.
