HSU Madrigal Singers and Mad River Transit Singers

Fulkerson Recital Hall

Please join conductor Rachel Samet for an evening of choral music called “Stand Upon the Rock,” featuring the HSU Madrigal Singers and the Mad River Transit Singers. Though the two choirs will perform different styles of music, both groups are indebted to early music as inspiration. Madrigal Singers performs music across several centuries, including a boisterous Shaker tune from the early Revivalist American tradition, music from the Renaissance and Romantic eras, an upbeat Yiddish Klezmer song, and an original gospel tune called “Stand Upon the Rock,” which is a powerful and passionate plea for freedom and justice. HSU’s jazz choir, Mad River Transit, will perform a wide range of jazz music, with its roots in early African American slave songs, from unique arrangements of jazz standards to funk and blues. Sunday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m in Fulkerson Recital Hall. $8 General, $5 Senior/Child, Free for HSU students with ID.
