HSU University Singers and Humboldt Chorale

Fulkerson Recital Hall

Please join the Humboldt State University Department of Music and choral director Rachel Samet as they present Humboldt State’s two large choral ensembles, University Singers and Humboldt Chorale, performing an eclectic and international program of music from the Renaissance through the present day on Friday, May 10th at 8:00 p.m. in Fulkerson Recital Hall. The program features music from all around the globe, including Ireland, Venezuela, Swaziland, Italy, France, and Sweden, in additional to different genres of American music. Music faculty member Paul Cummings will join the Chorale on the clarinet for a performance of a moving piece by the American composer Jeffery Ames entitled “In Remembrance.” In addition, graduating senior Richard Rios will conduct the energetic “Gloria” from Haydn’s Heiligmesse. Highlights of the University Singers program include Fred Squatrito’s gorgeous arrangement of the Kentucky folk tune “Bright Morning Star,” Gunnar Eriksson’s stellar arrangement of jazz pianist Lars Jansson’s “To the Mothers of Brazil: Salve Regina,” and “Insalata Italiana,” a hilarious parody of Italian opera. The program will conclude with both choirs, over 100 singers strong, performing a powerful gospel arrangement entitled “Daniel” by the wonderful American composer and music educator Rollo Dilworth. $10 General, $5 Child, $5 HSU students with ID.
