Humboldt Bay Brass Band
Please join the Humboldt Bay Brass Band in their only concert appearance this school year on Saturday, November 12th at 8:00 p.m. in Fulkerson Recital Hall. HBBB is HSU’s British Brass Band, and a brass ensemble project comprised of both students and some of the best community brass players on the North Coast. For those who have not taken a trip “across the pond” for a slice of UK-style band music, these bands are truly all-brass, with no woodwinds allowed. The instrumentation is 25 brass - cornets, flugelhorn, tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums, trombones, and tubas (four in HBBB) and four percussionists. One of the very few true brass bands in California, HBBB has explored the power of all-brass for the past decade, including a fantastically diverse body of brass band literature which has appealed to audiences for over a century. The concert begins with many examples of this exciting classic music, some of it arranged by director Dr. Gil Cline himself. The second half of the concert will feature “Kingdom of Dragons,” a four movement composition used in the UK as a play-off piece between competing bands, followed by a celebration of US Service Songs, perfectly timed for the Veterans Day Weekend. $8 General, $5 Seniors/Child, Free for HSU students with ID.
