Humboldt Bay Critter Crawl

See Event Description

The Humboldt Bay Critter Crawl consists of two open water swims in Humboldt Bay — a short course 0.7 mile swim, perfect for those new to open water swimming, and a 4.5 mile swim from the Coast Guard Station on the Samoa peninsula, along the Eureka city front to the Woodley Island Marina. The swim will coincide with a strong incoming current, allowing most swimmers to complete the swim in 1- 2 hours. Swimmers will be supported in the water by individual kayakers and multiple motorized support boats. Following the swim, warm showers, food and drinks will be available. A silent auction will also be held at the swim finish on Woodley Island. Friends, family members and other spectators may watch the swim from aboard the Madaket, which we have specially chartered for this event. All proceeds from this event benefit the North Coast Marine Mammal Center, a volunteer run, non-profit organization, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of seals, sea lions and other marine mammals. In addition to supporting our pinniped friends, our goal is to promote the recognition and appreciation of Humboldt Bay as a valuable resource for open water swimming, alongside other forms of recreation. Since the inaugural swim in 2014, the number of swimmers has doubled, attracting participants locally, as well as from Central and Southern California.
