Humboldt Bay on the Threshold of Change
350 Humboldt presents environmental planner Aldaron Laird in a Zoom presentation on Monday, June 7, at 7 p.m. Humboldt Bay has the highest rate of sea level rise on the West Coast, caused by a combination of rising sea levels from climate change and local land subsidence. In the next 40 years this will lead to dramatic and sometimes catastrophic changes to our area. While the bay’s rise is certain, we can choose how we adapt to it. The presentation will discuss the best available science as to the bay’s rise and what we can do to adapt. Aldaron Laird is a local environmental planner with 40 years’ experience researching California coastal waters. More recently he has focused on sea level rise on Humboldt Bay and is the leading expert on this topic.
