Humboldt County Beekeepers present: Guest speaker, Elina Niño, apiculturist from the UC Davis Honey Bee Research Facility

The evening program Will feature guest speaker, Elina Lastro Niño, extension apiculturist and research scientist at the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility at U C Davis, the largest and most comprehensive state‐supported apiculture facility in North America and the only one in California. Elina will provide details of the latest on their research, educational outreach, & extension resources at UC Davis. Her lab is working with a variety of issues and she will share insights on the biological factors that regulate honey bee queen reproduction (with goal to improving queen health & longevity) , a current study on splitting & and breaking brood cycles, and looking at bio pesticide effects for varroa. She is interested in honey bee management in our region. This is her first visit here to meet local beekeepers.
