Humboldt Folklife Festival Jazz Night
Join The Low Notes, The Bluntside Quintet and RLa with Francis Vanek for an intimate evening of jazz in Dell’Arte’s Carlo Theater. Doors open at 7pm. Show starts at 7:30. $8 (or $6 for Humboldt Folklife Members).
The Low Notes are a Jazz Quartet composed of Doug Kamprath on drums, Doug Mortenson on guitar, Dave Ryan on piano / keys, and Rick DeVol on bass. We play our own unique interpretations of jazz standards and original compositions.
The BluntSide Quintet are travelers of a distant world brought here only by the possibility of discovering the cure for our planets misery in Earths intense jazz vibrations. Only the grooviest and dankest vibrations will suffice, for our home planet of Bluntside refuses to dance.
The RLa Trio with Francis Vanek is a collection of three of the top jazz players in the area. They are, Tim Randles (piano) Mike LaBolle (drums) and Ken Lawrence (bass). Members of the band have played in Africa, Hawaii and L.A. They have been featured artists at the Morris Graves Museum, Arcata Playhouse and Folklife Fest Jazz Night. They have been the host band for the Westhaven Center of the Art Jazz Series for three years. Tim and Mike have been in the Dell’arte house band for 8 years. Tim has been house pianist at Larrupin Café for three years. Ken makes basses that are sold all over the world; Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck’s bassist) owns one of his basses. They have recently released their first CD.
